Having a successful corporate life is a dream of many. While those inhuman work hours can get you success but it costs you your precious health. When sparing an hour or two everyday for workout seems like a distant dream, one should devote their 10 minutes to practice Surya Namaskar every morning on empty stomach. These 10 minutes can change your lives in a way you won’t realize until you start practicing yourself.

Why Sun Salutation is Beneficial?

Sun Salutation is a full-body workout. Guess how many calories do you burn after a mix of 30-minute exercises? Weightlifting burns around 199 calories, tennis around 232 calories, football around 298 calories, rock climbing around 364 calories, and running around 414 calories.

Now, guess how much calories does Surya Namaskar burn? 417.

So, technically, 10 minutes of Surya Namaskar translates into burning 139 calories, which is more than what you’d burn even after swimming for 10 minutes. 7 Healthy Lifestyle Tips For Adults

If you have finally made-up your mind to live a healthier lifestyle, do follow the below mentioned tips to stay on the track for a longer period of time in a sustainable manner:

Eat a variety of food

For good health, we need a variety of nutrients which cannot come from one food. Having a balanced diet is a key to the good health. Eat your carbohydrates, protein and fats to nourish your body. Read to find different protein sources for vegetarians here.

Reduce Salt & Sugar Intake

A high salt intake can result in high blood pressure, and increase the risk of cardiovascular disease. Buy low-sodium salt and substitute salt with spices in food.

Sugary drinks and food are high in energy and should be consumed in moderation as an occasional treat. Use fruits, dates and even jaggery to sweeten favourite dish.

Control the Portion Size

Eating a variety of foods, regularly, and in the right amounts is the best formula for a healthy diet.

Skipping meals, especially breakfast, can lead to out-of-control hunger, often resulting in helpless overeating. Snacking between meals can help control hunger, but snacking should not replace proper meals. For snacks, we could choose yoghurt, a handful of fresh or dried fruits or vegetables (like carrot sticks), unsalted nuts, or perhaps some bread with cheese.

Paying attention to portion size will help us not to consume too much calories, and will allow us to eat all the foods we enjoy, without having to eliminate any.

Drink Plenty of Water

Adults need to drink at least 1.5 liter of water everyday and even more when it’s hot and when they are physically active. Read here to know when is the right time to drink water.

Stay Physically Active

Physical activity is important for people of all ages and weight ranges. It not only helps in burning extra calories but also keeps health in check. We don’t have to be a full time athlete to be active. Include small habits such as taking stairs, going for walk during lunch hours, making time for some activities during weekend. 150 minutes per week of moderate activity is advised.

Bring Lifestyle Changes Gradually

It’s easier to maintain lifestyle changes when introduced gradually. Major lifestyle changes introduced all at once are not sustainable. Begin with keeping a diary of your day to day activities and food you eat. Spot things you would like to change. Go slow. E.g. if you notice too little physical activity in your lifestyle, then start by taking stairs or going for 10 mins walk and gradually improve it. Sudden major changes will only backfire.

Eat Plenty of Fruit & Vegetables

Fruits and vegetables are among the most important foods for giving us enough vitamins, minerals and fibre. We should try to eat at least 5 servings a day. For example, a glass of fresh fruit juice at breakfast, perhaps an apple and a piece of watermelon as snacks, and a good portion of different vegetables at each meal.

How To Take Care Of Your Hair Naturally

Bad hair day is a real thing. Isn’t it? Hair adds to the overall look and it’s unbelievable how much they do add. We know right!

We all want to copy that hair model on TV or should I say on Instagram these days, do n’t we?

Well, things get a bit overwhelming when our hair look not lustrous and flowy but fizzy and dead.

But hello, having good hair is not a rocket science. We all can have good hair by following a routine and exposing our delicate hair to lesser amount of chemicals .

Here’s my top tips on how to look after your hair naturally:

Use Chemical Free Shampoos

Lesser the number of chemicals in your shampoo, healthier your hair will be. Go for gentle shampoos that suit your hair type.

Condition Correctly

Conditioner should always be applied only on the tips of the hair and not on your scalp. Also, make sure to rinse it off thoroughly post application.

Dry Your Hair Naturally

Blow drying can make your hair look good but excessive heat will only damage your hair. So limit it to special occasions only. From air-drying to towel drying after shampoo is a great way to go. Also do not comb wet hair and never go to sleep with wet hair. Be gentle on your hair. Hard rubbing can damage the cuticles of your hair.

Oil your hair

For some reasons, people think oiling as an odd fashioned way of taking care of your hair but I believe old is gold. Pre-shampoo treatments like oiling and massaging improve blood circulation on the scalp, relax your muscles, boost shine and nourish the hair. It also restores moisture content, enables hair growth and repairs split ends. You can choose from coconut oil, almond oil, olive oil, castor oil and the likes. Avoid using mineral oil on your hair.

Use A Wide-toothed Comb

Well hair brushes are trendy. But not really good for hair. Wet hair is fragile and prone to breakage. Let your hair dry and then use a wide-toothed comb to brush your hair. This kind of a comb prevents damage to your hair.

Trim Your Hair Regularly

Trimming ensures healthy hair growth. So get rid of the dead split ends after every 6 to 8 months.

Use Fabric Hair Bands

Use fabric hair bands over the plastic ones. Never pull your hair too tight when making a ponytail or any other hair style.

Never Take Hot Showers

Hot showers strip off natural oil from the hair leaving them fizzy and dead.

If you do not look after your hair, soon it will start having dandruff , hair fall and so on! Worse comes when you opt for chemical treatments as the solution, which further damage your hair.

So go natural with your hair and start looking after them by opting for less chemicals and more ❤️.

Planning Your Day

Your planning for the day should be get done by the night before. If you start to plan for your day in the morning, it leaves you with a bit of anxiety. However, if you plan for your day just half an hour before the bed time, you can save a ton of time in the morning plus you will have clarity of things to do as you wake up.

Waking Up At Inconsistent Time

Having a routine works like a magic. No one is asking you to be up by 4am. But if you get up at 8am make sure that you follow the pattern. Waking up one day at 8am and the next day at 10 am will have an impact on your sleep time which in turn will impact the wake up time next day. Before you know, your productivity levels will start to drop. Give yourself an exception for a weekend but that’s all.

Not Exercising

It does not mean that you go out and do a full blown workout. But avoid waking up and directly going to work. Do some stretching or go for a 20-minute walk. Waking up and then straight sitting on a chair for straight 8 hours will have bad health impacts. Giving your body some sort of exercise is a must.

Dehydration

Please do not drink coffee as you get up. You body needs water when you get up. It is dehydrated. First thing you should do in the morning is to hydrate yourself. Water is a necessity. We see people drinking first glass of water by afternoon, clearly it’s not a good habit. Our body, our brain needs water to work properly. So if you do not drink after as first thing in the morning, you should quit this bad habit right away.

Hitting The Snooze Button

Do you set three to four alarms and press snooze button in the morning? Well, if you do so, set the alarm and keep the phone in another room or far away from you. So when the alarm rings, you need to get out of the bed to stop the alarm. Once you are out of bed, you will definitely not hit the snooze button. It works, do try.

Do Not Spend Time On Social Media

Five minutes on Instagram can end up with you wasting 1 hour on mindlessly scrolling down the feed. Just check important messages that also when you are out of the bed. Do not touch your phone if you are still in the bed. This habit is the worst of all in 21st century. It impacts productivity levels as well as your health.

So, now you know how to avoid the six bad habits, start working on them right away and let the magic begins.
